Writer Weekend Fun

I have no words to explain this past weekend. Only this picture:

Let me tell you. I’m still exhausted. Leigh Covington and Cassie Mae are two of the most hilarious, entertaining, better-than-caffeine writer/blogger gals on the planet. Sitting between these two for dinner was quite the experience!

For all of my writer friends, let me say this: Pack your bags, load up the car, and move your families here to Utah, because I’m blown away by the talent and supportive group of writers here. It’s mad!

…which eases us into…

A big thank you.

Pleeeeeease forgive me, but I’m about to get all cheesy:

The support I’ve found in this writer/blogger community has been astounding. To copy what Donna King Weaver said in some post that I can’t remember this past week (lol) : “Writing used to be a very solitary hobby, but thanks to technology, it isn’t so much anymore.” ßAnd that isn’t an exact quote, but she said something along those lines. ;)

Yes, there is the bad that comes from the pressure of having an online profile, but the real life support waaaaay outweighs the negative in my opinion. It’s such a neat thing when people band together, lift each other up, spend hours on a beta read, and root each other on—especially when it can be a very competitive business.

One of these days, I’d like to link/list everyone and do one big shout out, just to let all of you know you’re loved, but… yeah.

So for now, I’m going to give a shout out to these fabulous gals that I get to meet in just a few short weeks at the SCBWI LA Conference! Cortney Pearson, Nyrae Dawn, Jolene Perry, Wendy Higgins, and Elizabeth Briggs! I hope I didn’t forget anyone. I even added a count down, LOL -------à

Will you be at the LA conference? Any other conferences coming up? Do you follow the gals above? And do you meet up with other writers in your area?

Red. Head. Out. :D

  2. Aw that is such a sweet post! You guys look like your having a great weekend in your picture :) I totally agree with you, I am so lucky to have found some great friends just through blogger that have really helped me in a journey as a writer. The internet is sometimes a great thing! I hope you enjoy your conference.

  3. I follow Cassie, but I'm unfamiliar with Leigh. Time to fix that. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!! :)

  4. Sounds like you had fun. I'm pretty far from Utah - but I would like to meet up with some UK writers one of these days. You make a great point that this community disproves any notion that writers are only out for themselves and must do anything to get ahead of the competition. On the contrary, so many people are willing to help each other out!

  5. I'm sure you laughed yourself silly in the presence of Cassie and Leigh!
And writing is not so lonely anymore. Not when we have such a great support team online.

  6. Looks like you ladies had a wonderful time! That is so awesome. The writing community is full of talented people willing to support, share and help each other out. It is simply amazing. Now lets work on that teleporter, I hate living so far away!

  7. I recognize a lot of those names. :)

I used to go to SCBWI LA, but now I go to the RWA nationals. They have more for YA than SCBWI LA ever did.

I'm lucky to have writer friends from both the RWA and SCBWI living in my city. I get together with some of them monthly for lunch or for meetings.

  8. Not only am I SUPER jealous that you got to meet with Cassie and Leigh, I'm beyond jealous that you're going to LA.

So glad you were able to have fun.(I still think you're downplaying your own craziness.)

  10. You can't even tell I was about to fall over in this picture! Totally lost my balance, lol.

And I have to sit next to you and Leigh wherever we go so we can talk about the jetted tubs and the erotica novels and rom poms. :)

  11. Morgan, I have two words for your picture: I'm jealous!

Seriously, though, you are right; the blogging community is a huge asset to a writer. And like you, I have so many folks to thank for just encouraging me and putting a smile on my face. :)

  14. Totally beyond jealous of this get together as well as the conference!!! I would have loved to be at both.

Why do I have to be in the middle of the frickin' country? Nothing happens here... haha

  15. YAY!!

We shall see you in LA, and bring some caffeine because I do not plan on wasting much time sleeping ;-D

  16. Oklahoma also has an amazing writing community. In fact, a friend just moved here from Kansas City because she likes the writing community here so much better.

If you don't feel that you have a good writing community, I would encourage you to work to develop one in your area. You never know how many writers in whose life you can make a difference by doing so.

  17. AWWWWWWW! This made my whole day! You're amazing girl! Absolutely amazing. I'm so glad we are able to get together in person because you're right. The support and friendship in the writing community is amazing! I love you ladies. And I will forever be jealous about SCBWI. Take lots of pictures. Hopefully, I'll be there with you next year!!!

  18. How fun Morgan! I haven't met you but I'm a Utah writer too and I am always astounded at the support that is here. It sounds like you had fun at SCBWI!

  19. It was a pleasure to meet you! Leigh is the best for bringing people together. You are one cute redhead. :)

  20. It was great meeting you! Hope you found your hubby in good condition when you got home! ;)

  21. Aww, looks like you had loads of fun! I wish I didn't live so far away!

  22. I have to confess, the green jealousy monster is lurking here. :) I seem to be in a desert of writers, although there is an association about an hour and a half away. I may have to travel a bit to experience what you have been able to. I'm east coast, which would be great if that meant New York, but no, it's southern east coast. That means the best parking at the mall is by Barnes and Nobles, the library books are in barely used condition, and I'm in redneck territory. You get the drift.

  23. Wish I could have gone :) Glad you had a good time though!

  24. I wish I could go to the conference! I'd love to meet and hang out with writers. I've got a couple of writer friends that are relatively local, but we always seem to get talking about things other than writing when we get together, lol. Just a bunch of girls at heart. have fun at the conference!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ahh, SO jealous! You guys are GORGEOUS.

    ReplyDelete
  26. soooo jealous! wish i could meet my blog friends for lunch! or just coffee!

  27. Utah has the most writers per capita than any other state, I think. I'm not sure why that is, however, it is kind of cool.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh, this sounds like so much fun. It's always so inspiring to get together with writer friends. I usually come home energized and ready to write up a storm!

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's awesome, I'm going to the SCBWI LA conference too! I can't wait. I had the opportunity to go 2 years again and had a blast. Glad you had a great weekend. :)

  30. Hey!!!!

OMGosh.... Someone Photoshopped me OUT of my pic.. :)

PS... I wish you would open up a little bit more, Morg, and tell us how you really feel.... :)~

  31. I agree. The support in this community is life-changing. I hope you had a great time. *waves from Soflo* Man its hot here!

  32. Cassie didn't corrupt you too much, did she?

    ReplyDelete
  33. You three seem like a nice team!
I have to confess I don't really attend writers meetings, but I always ask some passionate friends to critique my writings. And they won't spare strict comments or let me get off easy with clichés! Quite rightly.

  34. Hi, Morgan,

LOVE your enthusiasm. I couldn't agree with you more about our community! It is AWESOME!

I am so jealous that you are going to the LA conference. I went to the one NYC in January and had a BLAST. Unfortunately none of my blogger friends could attend. BUMMER. But it was awesome all the same.

HAVE a great time and keep us posted!

    Michael

  35. Aw, I'd love to go to the conference, but it's a tad far for me to come (for now, anyway). And yes, the writing community is so amazing and so wonderful!

  36. That was an awesome dinner gathering. Glad to see you there (even though you were on the other end of the table). Keep up the awesomeness! :)

  37. Just barely seeing this! So jealous! You guys are adorable, glad you had a blast!! Yay LA!!! Can't wait!
